Perpignan captain Bernard Goutta accepts they will not have any element of surprise this time around after reaching the 2003 Heineken Cup final in Dublin.
"I think it will be even harder this year because once again we have the English champions in our pool as well as two good teams in the Celtic Warriors and Calvisano," he said. "On top of that, I think teams will be more wary of us because of what we achieved last season.
"As far as we are concerned, we want to hold onto our status. We put the town of Perpignan on the rugby map last year and it's important to prove that last season was not a flash in the pan.
"It will be a difficult start against Wasps because like all English
teams they will be on a high after England's victory at the World Cup. That is why we want to produce a good performance against them.
"We are not confident of winning but we have no doubts about ourselves. And we won't just stand there and watch them play. We are on a winning run at the moment and we would love to keep that going.
"The Heineken Cup is a superb competition and our experience last year gave us and taught us a huge amount, in particular about the Anglo-Saxon way of playing rugby."
