Leicester Tigers back-row-forward Dan Lyle has announced his retirement from English Rugby just days before Dean Richards' men begin their Heineken campaign.
Lyle has departed from English Rugby just days before Dean Richards' men begin their Heineken campaign.
Lyle joined Leicester in September, but has played just three games for the twice European Champions due to his involvement with the USA's Rugby World Cup squad.
The 6ft 5in back-row-forward will quit the club after being given a 'great opportunity' in America.
'I'd like to thank Dean Richards and his staff for appreciating the chance that I have now in front of me and for allowing me to pursue it,' said Lyle.
'I'm retiring from all professional rugby now, although I've not decided if I'll play at all when I'm back in the States.
'I have a great opportunity facing me back home, which I can't really mention until everything is finalised, but I feel it will allow me to have more of a long-term effect off the pitch.
'What I would say to the Leicester fans is that I apologise for the premature departure and I hope things go well for the club in the future.'
