The Borders have welcomed back the five players who were in action at the Rugby World Cup as they returned to full training ahead of the 2003/4 Heineken Cup.
Scotland players Bruce Douglas, Gregor Townsend and Nikki Walker, together with Semo Sititi and Tanner Vili of Samoa, trained at Netherdale yesterday and coach Tony Gilbert confirmed that all five will be considered for selection for Friday's Celtic League match away to Ulster.
The international profile of Sititi, Samoa's captain at the World Cup, has risen considerably thanks to his performances in Australia, and over the weekend he was named as one of the players of the tournament - and the best No.8 - by a number of commentators.
"For the first time this season we have close to a full squad for Friday's game," said Gilbert.
"The only concern we have is that Stevie Scott has been carrying an injury and we'll have to check on him this week. But it's great to see the World Cup players back in the Borders, and they're all pleased to be back.
'Though it's a huge honour to play in a tournament like the World Cup it's always good to come home, too.
"I'm very confident that the players who have returned will be mentally and physically prepared to play on Friday," Gilbert continued.
"They're all good team men and they've gone about their business in a very professional manner. Now they're back they're keen to play, but there are no guarantees they'll step straight back into the team. Selectors have no friends and we'll be picking the best team - it's up to the players to perform."
