London Wasps scrum-half Rob Howley is preparing to play through pain to help his side become the Kings of Europe.
Howley has been suffering with a right wrist injury throughout the season, but is battling on bring the Heineken Cup back to Britain when his side face up to Toulouse at Twickenham on May 23.
The injury has become problematic enough to require surgery in the off-season. The injury has kept the former British Lions and Welsh international out of several contact training sessions during the past few months.
Howley said: "It's frustrating that my wrist requires surgery but it something that needs to be done. The injury has hampered my training, which has resulted in me missing a number of contact sessions.
"As a professional sportsman and scrum-half, my hands and wrists are a vital part of my job and if they are not right, then I'm not doing my job."
The injury is not serious enough to keep him out of the final few weeks of the season, but Wasps are desperate not to exacerbate the problem.
The London side have already lost the services of influential frontrow forward Craig Dowd, and the loss of Howley would be giant problem for Warren Gatland's men.
Howley has been a vital part of Wasps' success in the last two seasons, his pivotal partnership with England skipper Lawrence Dallaglio proving potent as Wasps lifted the Parker Pen Challenge Cup and won the Zurich Premiership.
