It's down to the wire now for the five contenders who have been shortlisted for the ultimate individual accolade in northern hemisphere rugby, ERC European Player of the Year 2013.

Martin Johnson and co. will come up against some of Scotland's most talented players, including the likes of Chris Paterson, who captained his country in the 2004 RBS Six Nations, locks Scott Murray and Nathan Hines, back rower Ali Hogg, scrum-half Mike Blair, utility back Brendan Laney, centre Tom Philip and new fullback sensation Hugo Southwell.
'It's a great opportunity for us to gauge ourselves against a side that played in the Heineken Cup quarter-finals last season,' said Tigers coach John Wells.
'Edinburgh were terrifically successful in the Heineken Cup and the Celtic League at home, so whereas we know they might have struggled away from home at times, they are a tough team. They were runners-up in the Celtic Cup so their pedigree is good and they will also supply the bulk of the Scottish side in the autumn. We know it's going to be a tremendous fixture and it's just what we need at that stage of the season.'
Tigers, who host the Cardiff Blues at Welford Road the following Saturday, will begin their pre-season preparations in earnest when they take part in the London Pride Middlesex Sevens on Saturday, August 14, at Twickenham.
'Cardiff have been strengthened by the addition of many Celtic Warriors players that were laid off at the end of last season,' said Wells. 'They're a quality outfit and we've always struggled to beat them in the past and we know that they'll give us a massive game. But it's just what we need before the Sale game.'
Tigers have won the Middlesex Sevens tournament just once - back in 1995 - and face stiff competition from the likes of defending champions Northampton Saints, Zurich Premiership champions London Wasps, and of course, the British Army.
Tigers begin their Zurich Premiership campaign on Sunday, September 5, against Sale Sharks - whom they beat in the 2003/04 Zurich Wildcard Final - at Edgeley Park.
Leicester Tigers' pre-season schedule:
Saturday, August 14: Middlesex Sevens, Twickenham
Saturday, August 21: v Edinburgh, Goldenacre, 4.15pm
Saturday, August 28: v Cardiff Blues, Welford Road, 3pm
