It has been described as the greatest Pool match in the 10-season history of the Heineken Cup - and there is more to come at Welford Road on Saturday.
Round 2 of the 'Battle of England' between double Heineken Cup winners Leicester Tigers and champions London Wasps will guarantee another sell-out crowd at the home of the Tigers. This is what the Press made of Round 1:
Chris Hewett, The Independent: "It beggars belief that the game (Round 4) will revisit the heights scaled and conquered by yesterday's classic confrontation but anything half as good will be well worth a month's salary."
Rob Kitson, The Guardian: "Next weekend's second act of this all-English passion play will have to be a belter to match yesterday's first gripping instalment. The Heineken Cup may never have known a Pool game of such bristling intensity."
Mick Cleary, The Daily Telegraph: "It was taut, tetchy and utterly riveting right to the final whistle … next Sunday's re-run at Welford Road will be no place for the squeamish."
Steve Bale, Daily Express: "Leicester won this monumental, malevolent tie in the scrum … this is the next thing to Test rugby and none of the participants who drove each other to a near standstill will play in a more demanding arena, no matter how many caps they win."
Peter Jackson, Daily Mail: "Martin Johnson's Leicester emerged triumphant yesterday from a snarling duel of such magnitude that Europe's supreme prize could be shifting across England. In the end
their scrum superiority made the difference and will threaten to do so again when the bell sounds for rugby's version of Rocky II at Welford Road next Sunday."
David Hands, The Times: "It sets up a magnificent return leg at Welford Road next Sunday when Leicester will try to hammer home the psychological advantage secured yesterday."
