Northampton Saints have signed international back-row Ross Beattie and prop Simon Emms.
The club was forced to seek out new players following the retirement of Rob Hunter and the injuries that have hit Saints' front row.
Former Bristol Shoguns captain Beattie, 27, who has nine caps for Scotland, has signed from Newport Gwent Dragons.
He said: "I am delighted to be here. I am looking forward to this weekend's game and the rest of the season."
Emms, aged 29, who has played for both Llanelli and Bath, added: "This is a fantastic opportunity for me. It's a big club in the Zurich Premiership and I am really glad to be here."
Both players will be eligible to play this weekend's Powergen Cup match against Bedford Blues, which is fortunate in the light of an injury list that includes seven forward, but are ineligible to play in Saints' remaining Heineken Cup Pool games.
Saints' operations director John Steele said: "With most of our pack out of action with injury, these players have got an opportunity to step in and make a case for a longer term contract next year."
