London Irish were given a real "wake-up call" in Pau last weekend and coach Gary Gold accepts they now have a tough battle to overturn a six-point deficit in the European Challenge Cup Round 2 Second Leg match at the Madejski Stadium on Sunday.
"Contrary to popular belief we are not happy with being six points down - we are disappointed to be behind for the Second Leg," said Gold.
"After holding a well earned lead we had the opposite of a purple patch for about 20 minutes and our errors let them back into a game that was there for the winning after we had produced some good rugby.
"Now we have got a tough hill to climb because apparently they rested some key players who will be back on Sunday - and their squad certainly contains a lot of very good players.
"We also expect them to be a real handful in the scrums this time after we dominated that area in the First Leg.
"We also had 140 ball carries against them last weekend but next time we have to do something with how we use all that possession.
"We will not go into the game with any ridiculous tactics. Our focus is on scoring tries on Sunday - and playing the game better than them."
But former Wallaby lock Garrick Morgan promises that Pau will be going flat out "for a decisive win" in Reading. "We are looking to play and have absolutely no intention of shutting the game down," he said.
"It is very important to the whole team as we have some great players but have underperformed so far this season.
"We have got some key players coming back for this game - most notably Julien O'Neill, who is a big influence on the side - and we feel the team is starting to work as a unit and that our season is beginning to come together.
"We will be moving the pack around this week as that was an area where we suffered against them last week.
"Our scrum and line-out is usually very good but I think the French players were put on the back foot by the organisation of the Irish forwards. I am very well aware that their discipline and organisation often makes their set pieces very hard to compete against.
"I think our pack was taught a bit of a lesson by the Irish forwards but we will be prepared for that this time."
