Jake Boer captains Gloucester against Cardiff Blues at Kingsholm on Saturday declaring: "We can't afford to lose on Saturday - it is as simple as that.
"We always knew we would probably have to put five wins together to get to the knock-out stages and, after losing in Paris on the opening weekend, the points on Saturday are vital to put us in a good position in Pool 6.
"So far this season we have not been consistent enough but we also know that we have the potential to click and put in an awesome performance - it is just difficult to say why that has not yet happened.
"As a group of players we not only need to realise what we must do on Saturday but also the role that that match plays in the bigger scheme of things in terms of the standings in the Pool.
"Any Welsh team is a good team and I think that even Cardiff would admit they have not had the results they would have wanted. But a change in tournament will give them a fresh focus and we know it is going to be tough on Saturday."
