L'Aquila can expect a warm welcome - on and off the pitch - when they clash with Auch in the First Leg of Round 1 of the European Shield on Saturday.
"The first round of the European Challenge Cup was a really good experience for us," said Auch coach Henry Broncan.
"We enjoyed playing against London Irish - they are a great team and their supporters are amazing.
"We saw about two hundred English people turned up in our region of Gers. It was a very friendly invasion and they certainly set the tone during the game! It was all a fond memory for the city and all the team - even though they won.
"Now we're looking forward to meeting L'Aquila in Round 1 of the European Shield. For many years the Gers has been 'The Promised Land' for lots of Italian workers and because of that many of our players are of Italian descent.
"So we'll make sure this game is going to create a big celebration, it's very important for the team. In this way, the European tournament is also an occasion for different cultures to mix and unite around the rugby.
"But we won't forget the high stakes of this match. We are expecting a hard game and it's a big challenge for Auch. I hope we'll win at least the home match.
"And, once away, we'll have to fight again because our target is to prolong as long as possible this European experience. Next season, if we fall back to the Second Division, not being in this competition will be our biggest regret and we don't want to live with regrets."
