Leeds Tykes Director of Rugby Phil Davies has insisted his side will go into the First Leg of Round 1 of the European Shield against VRAC with one target - to win the tournament.
The Tykes, who played in the Heineken Cup last season, are in the Shield after losing out by one point to Grenoble in the Round 1 of the European Challenge Cup but Davies insists his team will be taking the competition very seriously.
"As a club we have not won anything to date and the Shield gives us a great opportunity," said the former Wales forward.
"You can never underestimate the importance of success and that is a big motivator for us. We will be fielding our strongest possible side throughout and players like Iain Balshaw, Tim Stimpson and Phil Christophers will all benefit from a run of games. We don't know anything about our opposition from Spain this week but we are concentrating on our own performance."
The Tykes have lost their last three games in the Zurich Premiership but all games have been close affairs with defeat coming in the closing minutes. Davies added, "We are disappointed with the results recently but in spells we have produced some sensational rugby, hopefully we can continue that in the Shield this week."
