Saints chairman Keith Barwell said: "Alan is a great coach and we would like to thank him for his efforts during the last few months. However, for whatever reason, it has not worked out and the board is disappointed to announce that we feel it is now the appropriate time to make a change in the coaching structure."
Mr Barwell added: "Saints now need to look within themselves and to each other to continue concentrating on that ethos that we all believe in - playing with heart and passion, and being proud of the Northampton Saints jersey."
Budge Pountney and Paul Grayson have joined Northampton Saints' temporary coaching team today following Solomons' departure.
Pountney and Grayson will join forwards coach Adrian Kennedy, skills coach Frank Ponissi and technical analyst Paul Larkin to make up the new team.
The move is a temporary measure Mr Barwell said: "The club will be combing the world for another head coach. However, the ideal would be that our new temporary coaching set-up works out."
The club's decision to part company with Solomons has inspired to Corne Krige step down as Northampton Saints' club captain.
The former Springbok skipper said he felt he could no longer remain in the position that he was appointed to by Solomons.
Saints won their last league game against NEC Harlequins at The Stoop on September 11. Their most recent loss was to Worcester Warriors at Franklin's Gardens last weekend. Saints face Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park next Sunday before heading back to the Heineken Cup with back-to-back games against Toulouse.
Saints currently lie in 10th place in the Zurich Premiership and one point behind pool three leaders Toulouse in the Heineken Cup.
