Llanelli Scarlets flanker Ian Boobyer has been suspended by his region until January 1, 2005 after the West Wales side found him guilty of foul play during a Celtic League match against Cardiff Blues
The ban means Boobyer will not play in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Heineken Cup in early December. The Scarlets face must-win back-to-back matches against Glasgow Rugby following defeats to Toulouse and Northampton Saints this season.
Boobyer's boot made contact with the head of Blues flanker Nathan Budgett. The Cardiff man was forced to go off for medical attention.
Boobyer escaped immediate penalty, but Scarlets Chief Executive Stuart Gallacher said: "We cannot condone what happened and have acted accordingly."
Boobyer has also been fined by the Scarlets, and his ban also prevents him from playing for the semi-professional side.
