Italy will have at least one team in the Parker Pen Shield final on Friday, 21 May (21.00) - and Rugby Parma captain Roland De Marigny has been quick to claim the underdogs tag for the two legs of their semi-final against domestic rivals Viadana, kicking off with home advantage at Sergio Lanfranchi on Saturday.
"Viadana are one of the top sides in Italian rugby and they are, without a doubt, the favourites in this contest," said the international fly half. "They have a great history and are a very strong club.
"They have got to three Italian Championship finals in recent years, they have got more strength in depth and international players than us and they have had the invaluable experience of playing in the Heineken Cup in the past.
"We are the underdogs but it would mean a huge amount to Rugby Parma to reach the final - both rugby wise and putting us on the Euro rugby map.
"So our objective is obviously to get to the final and the coaches and directors have sat us down and explained that our important target is simple - reach the final.
"These are exciting times for us because when you look at how rugby was in Italy three years ago it didn't have much going for it. We have taken a huge leap forward although, even now if you talk of Italian rugby, most people think of Treviso so getting to the final would be a big selling point for Rugby Parma.
"Italian sides tend to lift their games when playing at home and that is what we hope - and have to do - on Saturday. We are confident we can play well enough to gain a margin for the away leg, so that we can go travel without any added pressure.
"However, while it will be our third game in a week and it is going to be very demanding physically for the players, the squad will be up for it."
