Montferrand go into the second leg of their Parker Pen Challenge Cup semi-final against Zurich Premiership leaders Bath Rugby on Saturday aware that they start at least three scores adrift of Danny Grewcock's team.
A 29-15 defeat in the first leg has left the French club with it all to do - but international scrum half Pierre Mignoni does not consider it mission impossible.
"It's simple - we have to try to make up the 14 points that we let slip at Bath," he said. "We have to win this match in order to go through to the final, but it's not going to be easy.
"We made up 17 points in our home match against Newcastle Falcons but this is going to be totally different on Saturday.
"Bath are not going to come to Clermont Ferrand to lose - they are going to do everything to win the match. They are an excellent side both up front and behind the scrum and they play well as a team.
"I hope the public will be with us. We have gone through a very difficult time in the French championship and it's up to us to give the public something to shout about.
"We are desperate to show them what we are capable of - and to get to the final. After all, if we win the Parker Pen Challenge Cup, we will be in the Heineken Cup next year. And that would save our season."
