Leicester Tigers' Heineken Cup hopes have suffered a blow after centre Ollie Smith was ruled out of their European openers.
Smith, 19, could be out for at least a month with a shoulder problem picked up during the Tigers' 15-9 win over fellow Heineken Cup competitors NEC Harlequins on Saturday.
Leicester boss John Wells said: "Ollie hurt his shoulder and will be out for four to six weeks, but we need time to assess the injury properly."
But coach Wells will be buoyed by the return action of free-scoring outside half Andy Goode. Goode has missed the majority of the season so far with a knee injury but he was back in the thick of it on Saturday, scoring all his side's points as the Tigers maintained their position at the top of the Zurich Premiership with a 15-9 win over fellow Heineken Cup competitors NEC Harlequins.
The Tigers - who won the Heineken Cup in 2001 and 2002 with wins over Stade Francais and Munster - face Calvisano at Welford Road this weekend before a tough trip to much-fancied French outfit Biarritz Olympique in Round 2.
