Perpignan - the 2003 Heineken Cup finalists - have laid down a 2005 marker with their 23-0 Pool 5 victory over Edinburgh Rugby but their Australian fly half Manny Edmonds believes there is far better still to come from his side.
"Clearly I'm happy to have been made man of the match and there were some good things that came out of our game against Edinburgh but we've really got a lot of work to do before we play against Newcastle Falcons on Sunday," he said.
"But I think the game at Newcastle will be very tight. They've got a good pack and we had been showing poor form during the last three weeks. Although the score was pretty comprehensive we're disappointed with our performance.
"Our game didn't come together in the first half and it wasn't until we scored the try that our game started to improve - it was disappointing not to be able to show our home fans our best rugby.
"It's clearly always harder playing away matches but our biggest concern is to sort out the weaknesses we had in our game before Sunday.
"The fact that Wilkinson is injured will have an effect on the Newcastle team. However, as I'm very aware as a fellow fly-half, the No 10 is only able to perform well if they are given good ball and the opportunity to run with it so the rest of the team is far more important.
"And we must learn from last weekend's game. There were a lot of things that didn't work well and which we need to improve on before going to Newcastle.
Our ball control was poor and we made a lot of unforced handling errors.
"We'll also be looking hard at the way our forwards and backs work together. Our forwards worked very well as a unit but we didn't get enough good ball to the backs to give them the opportunity to run it out."
