London Wasps scrumhalf, Rob Howley, has had a setback in the recovery of his right wrist. The former Welsh captain and Wasps Heineken Cup hero saw a specialist last week and was told his wrist had failed to heal properly.
Howley said, "I had a CT scan last week and the scan revealed the fracture had not made union. When I had the cast taken off, the doctors said six to eights weeks before I could play again. However, this setback means I may only return in January or February.
"I'm absolutely devastated and will be seeing another specialist on 11 October. However, all I can do is continue the intensive treatment and hope and pray for the best".
While Howley may be out till January, the club did receive some good news in that Craig Dowd will make a return to action. The former All Black prop was named in the Wasps Zurich A League squad for tonight's game against Gloucester at Kingsholm, kick-off 7:30pm. Dowd, who ironically damaged his Achilles at Kingsholm last season, has made a remarkable recovery considering doctors said he would only be ready to play in December.
Former Wasps captain, Mark Weedon, will also make a return to competitive rugby this evening, as he was also included in the Wasps Zurich A squad. Weedon will play at lock.
