Gloucester's director of rugby Nigel Melville is focusing solely on this weekend's final Heineken Cup pool game against Treviso, and putting all talk of the knock-out stages to one side.
Talking to
www.gloucesterrugbyclub Melville said: "It's all about the Treviso game at Kingsholm this weekend. Yet again it goes down the final weekend of the pool games and we know we have to win, full stop!"
The Cherry and Whites sit level on points in pool five with Munster and know that a win against Saturday's Italian opposition is vital.
As well as the six 'winners' places, there are also two 'best runners-up' slots available for the quarter-finals.
"If we win, we go through, if we don't we're out. We're not talking about quarter-finals, all we are concentrating on is a result on Saturday," said the Cherry and Whites top man.
With such an important game coming up, Melville was quick to highlight the importance of the Gloucester faithful and the role they play on matchday.
"The Gloucester fans have been brilliant in recent weeks with two back-to-back away games. Saturday is another opportunity to create that very special environment at Kingsholm.
"We need a great atmosphere that will match the occasion of a final pool game with everything to play for.
"At the beginning of the week we sat down and emphasised that this weekend we face a straight knock-out situation - if we win we go through, if we lose we go out.
"This is as big a game as we have had this season. At this stage we're not talking about the quarter-finals - I am not interested. All we are concentrating on is getting the job done this weekend. If we want knock-out rugby, we know what we have to do to achieve it."
But Melville is well aware of the threat that Italian giants Benetton Treviso pose. "They are a very good side. It was tough when we went to Italy, and they've had two good showings against Munster and Bourgoin. They have improved throughout the competition, and they'll be keen to prove a point this weekend."
