Clerc on top of the try scoring table

Flying wing Clerc grabbed two tries in the 36-17 home win in front of the biggest crowd of Round 1 - the 28,543 at Le Stadium - to go out on his own with 30 tournament tries and knock Welshman Dafydd James off top spot.

Clerc's haul has come in just 47 tournament appearances and Harlequins will be desperate to stop him adding to that total in what they will see as a must win encounter after their defeat at Cardiff Blues.

"In seven years in the Heineken Cup I have never played against Harlequins, but I expect the game to be tough for two reasons," said Clerc.

"Firstly, it is a key game for them because they lost to the Blues and can't afford the smallest slip up. If they lose again, they will be practically out of the Heineken Cup so it is do or die for them.

"And, after all that happened last summer, they will be keen to show their worth on the field and in front of their home crowd. This team will be out to prove a point and will be dangerous. It will be down to us to do what needs to be done to rise to the challenge.

"The victory against Sale Sharks was good for us. We have started off the competition well and it was really important for the squad.

"We got a bonus point and that puts us in a good position for next weekend's game against Harlequins. By winning our opening game we won ourselves a lifeline in this tournament.

"However, we conceded two tries towards the end of the game due to small individual errors and to some slackness on our part. We will have to rectify that against Quins and be consistent for 80 minutes.

"For myself it was nice to break the record but I didn't have that in mind when I went out on the field. I wish to thank all the guys who helped me score those tries and I do hope especially that it won't stop here."

The Le Stadium attendance was the eighth highest figure for a Pool match and helped the Round 1 total of spectators to top 152,000 - the third highest in the history of the tournament - on a weekend when Benetton Treviso stunned French champions Perpignan with a 9-8 victory.
