Overmach Rugby Parma's hopes of winning Pool 4 evaporated as they were beaten by Brive in Thursday's European Challenge Cup match.
The French side ran in 29-13 winners to secure the Pool and passage into the final eight of the competition.
Overmach Parma must now hope for the unlikely scenario of Cetransa El Salvador beating Newcastle Falcons if they are to finish second in the Pool.
Three teams will qualify for the quarter-finals as best runners up. Currently, Parma are one of those teams but there is a lot of rugby left to play this weekend.
The Italian side took a six nil lead at Brive's Stade Amédée Domenech, but failed to hold on to the advantage. The went into the interval trailing 10-6 and were second best after the break.
The home side scored three second half tries to compliment Jean-Philippe Bonrepaux's first half score and were comfortable winners at the final whistle.
