Edinburgh resume their hunt for Heineken Cup quarter-final qualification away to Bath Rugby in Round 3 on Sunday boosted by their national team's backs-to-the-wall triumph over Australia.
Six Edinburgh players - Phil Godman, Allan Jacobsen, Ross Ford, Chris Paterson, Nick de Luca and Kyle Traynor - played in the Test with the boots of Godman and Paterson supplying all the points in the 9-8 win, the only defeat inflicted on the Wallabies on the European leg of their tour.
"It's a must-win game for us," said de Luca after helping his side to a 17-16 Magners League win at the Scarlets. "If we want to progress in the Heineken Cup then we have to win at Bath. We will go there with that attitude and throw everything we have at them - we will be aiming for a victory.
"Character and effort is a big part and key to our game. You only had to look at the Scotland team last month and we want to continue that. We will give our all and hopefully that will be enough to get a good result. "We were close to getting three wins in the autumn. But we didn't show enough attacking-wise and that was disappointing. Our defence has come on leaps and bounds and our character, grit and determination is second to none.
"Scottish rugby is on the up but we want to bring the fans back. We need to show more flair, score more tries and keep the victories going. "We will take the win and a bit of confidence from beating the Scarlets but I doubt either side will be happy with the performance. We were slightly lucky to escape with the win as the Scarlets had chances at the end to punish us.
"But they let us off the hook. We are happy to come to Wales and go away with four points. Winning is a habit so it is good to get back to winning ways before heading into Europe. "You get used to winning and you do believe that you can win, even if you are behind and the pressure is on. It's important to win tight matches but we have the confidence of winning games on the road. We were lucky on Friday night but it's still a victory.
"It was important to bounce back against the Scarlets because we had lost to the Dragons at home. We are now looking forward to Bath." While Edinburgh were edging home by a point at Parc y Scarlets, Bath went down 15-13 at Northampton Saints. "It's a long turnaround for us so we will have a couple of days off, prepare ourselves with video analysis and do our utmost to get the victory," added de Luca.
"Next week, we hope to improve our performance, score more tries and, hopefully, it won't be so tight. Bath are not going well but they are a really good side and it will be tough.
"We have had occasional, positive wins away from home but now it has to happen on a regular basis. It's okay doing it in the Magners League but we need to do it in Europe to progress. We need to start doing better than we have and start reaching the quarter-finals. That's our main goal."
