Leicester Tigers backs coach Matt O'Connor insists his side will learn valuable lessons from their Heineken Cup defeat to Clermont Auvergne on Sunday afternoon.
The double European Champions were beaten 40-30 at the Stade Marcel Michelin as they slipped to third place in Pool 3.
And former ACT Brumbies coach O'Connor admits the Tigers will need a big improvement if they are to win Saturday's return match at Welford Road.
"We'll look at ourselves harshly and learn the lessons," said O'Connor, after Leicester left France without a bonus-point of any sort in what is already looking like an incredibly tight group.
"It's hard to beat good sides at their place, it's not rocket science.
"Turnover ball was an issue for us. We weren't good enough at the ball.
"We lost our shape because of their good defensive work and that put pressure on us at the breakdown.
"They off-loaded the ball and got in behind us and, as a result, they were able to play on the front foot.
"They got the jump on us physicality-wise and they were also a little more accurate."
Despite the disappointment of defeat, however, O'Connor remains optimistic regarding the Tigers' chances of reaching a 10th Heineken Cup quarter-final in 13 years.
Having trailed 25-9 at half-time to the French Championship runners up, Leicester hit back in fine fashion to come close to securing both a try-scoring and losing bonus point.
And the manner in which the Guinness Premiership Champions responded to a poor first-half has given O'Connor real belief that they can turn things around in the East Midlands.
"They took their chances to get points on the board and you cannot give good sides a lead like that," added O'Connor.
"We were chasing the game from there but right at the end we went close to another try and that could have given us two points from the game.
"It was encouraging the way we finished. The boys still had belief, they never doubted themselves. If we take that into next week we should be in a good place.
"The challenge is to turn things around in less than seven days.
"Home advantage is huge…and we need to make sure we are better next week.
"The Pool is still alive. It's about winning next week and it's game-on again."
