Following their loss to Saracens on Saturday, two-time Heineken Cup winners London Wasps face an uphill battle to secure a Heineken Cup spot next season.
With just four games to play in the Guinness Premiership the current English champions sit a lowly tenth in the league table, 13 points a drift from sixth place and the likely Heineken Cup spot that comes with it, and would also appear to be out of reach of the Premiership play-off and the chance to retain their title.
McGeehan's men face a Wednesday evening class with Bath this week followed by games against Newcastle, Bristol and Gloucester in their final run-in to the championship and would need a winning strike to get back into contention for the Play-offs and top flight European action.
Wasps have missed Heineken Cup rugby on only one occasion when in the 2002/03 season they still managed to demonstrate their top tier European credentials by winning the European Challenge Cup outright. Having got a taste for European glory the High Wycombe side went on to win the Heineken Cup in 2004 and 2007 beating both Toulouse and Leicester in finals.
England have six automatic Heineken Cup places with the possibility of a seventh place if an English club progresses further than Toulouse inn this seasons Heineken Cup.
But if an English club wins the European Challenge Cup tournament they will take one of the allocated English spots.
