Magners League organisers Celtic Rugby have moved to clarify their position on the participation of Italian teams in the tournament.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Celtic Rugby have confirmed that they have advised FIR (Federazione Italiana Rugby) that they would in principle welcome the participation of up to two Italian sides in the Magners League, from the 2010/11 season onwards , subject to meeting certain conditions.
These conditions which will be clearly defined are said to fall under the headings of Playing and Facility standards as well as Finance and Commercial issues including television.
The statement added that as this process will take sometime to complete, the 2010/11 season has been identified as the earliest possible date for Italian sides to join the Magners League.
