Hogg excited by Edinburgh's European challenge

Edinburgh were drawn into Pool 4 in the draw that took place in Stade de fRance in Paris on Tuesday, 9 June with Bath selected as their Top Tier opponents, Stade Francais coming from Tier 2 and Ulster from Tier 3.

Both Bath and Ulster are former winners of the premier competition in northern hemisphere rugby while Stade Francais, who have recently recruited ex-Edinburgh full-back Hugo Southwell, have lost in the final twice before.

Nevertheless, despite the pedigree of the opposition, back rower Hogg told www.edinburghrugby.org that he is confident Edinburgh have a genuine chance of progressing through to the knock-out stages for the second time in the club's history.

Hogg said: "I think it is a really good draw for Edinburgh. We know it will be tough, but we've got a good chance and everyone will be looking forward to the challenge.

"I've never played Stade before, so that should be interesting, especially with Simon Taylor and Shuggy (Hugo Southwell) there.

"We beat Bath in a warm-up match last season, although they will be very difficult to beat and we know Ulster really well from our meetings in the Magners League."
