Old Hale RFC were worthy victors of the thirteenth Heineken 10's rugby festival which took place at Fiveways Old Edwardians RFC on 31st August. The well-drilled outfit overcame Worcester in the dying minutes of extra time, triumphing 15-10 following a great day of rugby for all involved.
With an excellent quality of rugby on display, there was further success for Harborne in the Plate Final, as they eased to victory against Birmingham Wyvern 22-5.
Victorious Old Hale captain, Chris Harris, was delighted with his team's success, "Many thanks to Fiveways Old Edwardians and Heineken for such a fantastic day of rugby. The standard was high and we're really pleased the team were good enough to win."
Clarisse Smith, tournament organiser, said, "We've been delighted to host this tournament - it's been an excellent event involving a lot of fun and a great standard of rugby. Thanks to all those involved."
By winning the thirteenth Heineken 10's festival, Old Hale RFC automatically go into the hat to become eligible for the Heineken legacy donation, which will be awarded to one of the victorious clubs at the completion of all of the Heineken 10's festivals in 2009.
Following a successful inaugural year of the first ever national 10's rugby competition in 2008, the Heineken 10's returns bigger and better in 2009. With 15 tournaments hosted at rugby clubs nationwide between May and September, this is the first ever social rugby tens tournament of its kind. It promises to attract even more amateur rugby players - with over 2500 taking part in 2009.
