Cardiff Blues coach David Young says the club would love to welcome Gareth Thomas back.
'Gareth has expressed he would love to play back at the Arms Park before the end of his career and we have said we would love to have him back,' said Young.
'But he is contracted to Toulouse and so they are always going to be in charge of the situation.
'It is out of the question at this moment in time - we have always said there is an open door here for him.
Former Wales captain Thomas is still under contract with three-time Heineken Cup champions Toulouse.
Thomas played for The Blues between 1997 and 2001 and is thought to want to end his career playing back at home in Wales.
Blues coach Young does not disguise the club's desire to bring Thomas back to Cardiff, but he is still under contract with the French outfit.
Thomas has captained both Wales and the Lions but has not played international rugby since February and had to battle back to fitness after suffering a mini stroke.
