London Wasps director of rugby Ian McGeechan hailed a professional job by his players after they recorded a 71-5 win over Benetton Treviso...
Paul Sackey scored a hat-trick as Wasps ran in 11 tries against the Italian champions at Stadio Comunale di Monigo. Alex King, Lawrence Dallaglio, Eoin Reddan, James Haskell, Josh Lewsey, Daniel Cipriani, Nick Adams and Mark van Gisbergen, who added eight conversions, also went over during a comfortable afternoon for Wasps.
The win takes Wasps a point clear in Pool One with games against Perpignan and Castres still to come in the New Year.
McGeechan said: "We needed to work hard out there, especially for the first 15 minutes. Treviso had a great opening and they never stopped competing but we worked hard and the in the end the tries came.
"We've improved since last week. We faced a better Treviso side this week, compared to last week. I think we've gone up a level as we
increased our tempo and we played in a very pleasing way. We've been trying to work on that and in that respect I'm very pleased.
"We've had a few good wins against Treviso but we know it will all be for nothing if we don't win the group.
"We've got a lot to play for over the next couple of weeks. We've got a huge Christmas period coming up and we've got to manage it properly but I feel we are competing well in both the Premiership and in Europe."
The result left Treviso firmly stranded at the bottom of Pool One with out a single point and second-row Michele Sutto admitted Wasps were too strong.
Sutto said: "Wasps are more used to playing a more intensive rugby over longer periods so it was hard for us to stay at the top of our game for the whole game. We managed that for the first 15 minutes and we were very motivated. But we wasted two or three chances and we paid for that. had we been a few steps quicker then we would have been able to compete better but they were too strong."
