The 32 year old hooker has won 72 caps for his country, including 27 as captain, winning successive Grand Slams in 1997 and 1998 and leading his team to the World Cup Final in 1999.
Ibanez began his playing career in his home town of Dax before moving to Perpignan where he made seven Heineken Cup appearances. He later moved to Castres earning another six Heineken Cup caps and a European Shield medal in 2003. Following the 2003 Rugby World Cup he retired from international rugby and moved to England to play with Saracens.
Ibanez is enthusiastic about the move to the home of the English Champions, saying,Im looking forward to being part of a winning team. I want to give my best to this club, training and playing hard. Wasps will start their 2005/6 Heineken Cup Pool 6 campaign in Murrayfield away to Edinburgh Gunners on Sunday, 23 October and will also face current champions Tolouse and Llanelli Scarlets.
