It was five wins to two for the Heineken Cup clubs last weekend when the seven French Heineken Cup teams met the seven European Challenge Cup clubs in the opening round of the French Top 14 Championship.
Heineken Cup champions Toulouse got off to a flyingstart with a 26 -12 away win to Bayonne, which included two tries from Jean-Baptiste Elissalde and one each from Yannick Jauzion and Florian Fritz, earning a valuable bonus point.
Last season's Top 16 winner's Biarritz Olympique beat new boys RC Toulon 20-10 on the road, while Castres, Perpignan and Clermont also recorded wins against Montpellier, Agen and Pau respectively. Heineken Cup and French championship finalists Stade Francais lost out to Narbonne 26-20 away from Paris with Bourgoin being the only other Heineken Cup club to lose in the Top 14 opening round, when Brive defeated them 15-10.
Round 2 of the 26 round Top 14 Championship takes place next weekend 26/27 August.
