Fourteen of the first fifteen Lions players named in the team to face the All Black in the first test of the series on Saturday, 25 June in New Zealand, will play in the Heineken Cup this season.
The 2005 Heineken Cup champions Toulouse will be represented by Gareth Thomas while fellow Welshman Stephen Jones, named at number 10 for the Lions, will play for ASM Clermont Auvergne in Pool 3 of this seasons tournament.
The Lions team will include four players from two time Heineken Cup champions Leicester Tigers - Julian White, Ben Kay, Neil Back and Martin Corry as well as Josh Lewey from the 2003 champions London Wasps, who will play in Pool 6.
From Pool 5, Leinster will be represented by Captain, Brian ODriscoll and Hooker, Shane Byrne, while Munsters Paul OConnell has also been named for the Lions team.
The Welsh regional sides are represented by Dwayne Peel from Llaneli Scarlets and Gethin Jenkins from Cardiff Blues, whose clubs will be hoping to reach a home Heineken Cup final in Cardiff this season.
Two teams returning to the Heineken Cup this season, Sale Sharks and Saracens, will be represented on Saturday by Jason Robinson and Richard Hill respectively.
The remaining player from the Lions 15 Jonny Wilkinson from Newcastle Falcons, who reached the Heineken Cup quarter-finals last season, will play in the European Challenge Cup this season.
