Munster Rugby's star fullback Christian Cullen will miss the Heineken Cup quarter-final against Biarritz Olympique after sustaining a shoulder injury.
Follwing an MRI scan this morning, it has been confirmed that Christian Cullen will be out of action for between four to six months having torn ligaments in his shoulder. Cullen sustained the injury in a heavy tackle towards the end of the opening half in Munster's Celtic League game with Cardiff on Saturday.
Munster coach Alan Gaffney said: "It is of course terribly disappointing to lose a quality player like Christian and I don't suppose it could have come at a worse time with the concluding stages of the Celtic competitions and the Heineken Cup upon us. It's particularly tough on him however and I can only wish him well in his recovery.
In relation to the deadline that looms for registration of players for the knock-out stages of the Heineken Cup Gaffney said: "Obviously we have been exploring that situation over the past while. Now we have to re-visit the issue with a different midset in light of the injury to Christian. We have until Thursday to nominate and we will be making no decision until then."
