European Challenge Cup finalists Sale face the toughest of warm ups for their clash with Pau later this month after being paired with Heineken Cup holders Wasps.
The Sharks ensured a third-placed finish in the Zurich Premiership when they saw off Harlequins 23-22 at the Stoop on saturday, Steve Hanley, Marc Cueto and Charlie Hodgson with the points. While the result condemned former Challenge Cup holders Quins to relegation from English rugby's top flight, the win secured the Sharks' spot in the Heineken Cup next term.
And the reward for the Edgley Road outfit is a trip to second-placed and deposed kings of Europe Wasps next week with a place in the Zurich play-off final against table-toppers Leicester Tigers up for grabs.
If Phillipe Saint Andre's side manage to overcome Wasps at their Causeway Stadium home, they would face the Tigers at Twickenham just seven days before their mouth-watering Challenge Cup clash with French side Pau at the Kassam Stadium, Oxford.
But having beaten Pontypridd in the same competition at the same venue back in 2002, the Sharks will be hoping for lightening to strike twice come the May 21 showdown.
