Todd Blackadder wore the captain's armband when Edinburgh Rugby - now Edinburgh Gunners - became the first Scottish side to qualify for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals when they won a place in the 2003 / 2004 last eight.
Now the former All Blacks skipper is in the Gunners' coaching hot seat and faced with trying to guide the team through to the quarter-finals from Pool 6 where they have to tackle two clubs who have gone all the way and lifted the coveted trophy - reigning champions Toulouse and London Wasps - and Llanelli Scarlets.
"Many people would say that we could not have asked for a tougher start to the Heineken Cup than against London Wasps but at least we're at home," he said.
"We know their reputation and what they are all about. They have plenty of stars in the team and big-match players such as Lawrence Dallaglio and they are very well coached by Ian McGeechan and others.
"They have been champions in the English Premiership for the last few years in a row and are undoubtedly one of the top sides in Europe.
"At first glance you would think there are very few chinks in their armour but we have nothing to lose. We will be the underdogs but we're doing well in the Celtic League, we're unbeaten at home this season and playing some good rugby.
"It is certainly a tough pool with both Wasps, who won the cup two years ago, and the reigning champions Toulouse. They are two teams who know all about this competition and what it takes to win this competition. Llanelli also have vast experience from their performances year in and year out.
"But we have got to believe in ourselves and our ability to win, otherwise we may as well pack our bags and settle for second best. We're aiming to play some rugby and take the game to them."
