Paul Steinmetz faces a race against time to be fit for the opening rounds of the Heineken Cup, but the former New Zealand centre knows his side is ready to make a big impact this season.
Home advantage over Benetton Treviso on 'opening night' this Friday is the perfect tonic for the 1999 champions and Steinmetz is banking on the intimidating atmosphere of a packed Ravenhill to turn Biarritz Olympique and Saracens into quivering wrecks.
"Sport in Northern Ireland is on a bit of a high at the moment and we've had some great crowds so far this season. But we all know that when Heineken Cup time comes there will be packed houses at Ravenhill," said Steinmetz.
"It was a tough campaign for our new coach Mark McCall last season, but he came through it well in the end and learned a lot about himself and the squad of players.
"The introduction of Justin Harrison this season has made a huge impact not only on the field, but also off it. He has been setting the tone for the rest of the players and he will be an important player for us in Europe."
