Sarries flanker Dave Seymour has been ruled out of action for 6-8 weeks after sustaining knee ligament damage on the opening Guinness Premiership day.
The 23-year-old was forced to leave the field midway through the second half after picking up the injury in the 24-21 defeat to Harlequins in the London Double Header.
Despite having already started his rehabilitation, he is not expected to return to action until early November and will miss the first two rounds of the European Challenge Cup. He should come back on Round 3 to face Bayonne at Jean Dauger.
"It's a blow for the squad and for Dave who has trained very hard going throughout pre-season. He was in good shape going into the start of the season so it's obviously a massive disappointment for him but he has already started his rehab and it won't be long before he is back in full training." explained Director of Rugby Eddie Jones.
