Leeds Carnegie have announced their seventh signing of the summer with Gloucester full back Jon Goodridge, 26, joining the club on a two year contract.
Goodridge made over 50 appearances for Gloucester since making his debut as a teenager in 2000 and won the club's Young Player of the Year award in 2004. He lost his place in the Gloucester team last season to former Leeds star Iain Balshaw but sees the move to Headingley Carnegie as a fresh start for him and an opportunity to recapture his earlier form.
"I was at Gloucester for a long time but I am really excited about the new challenge of coming to Leeds. I can't wait to get started at training and for the season to start. Ironically, we have got Gloucester first up here at Headingley Carnegie so I will be looking forward to coming up against a few old friends. Word got round that I was joining Leeds after the fixture list came out and there has been a bit of banter already and I'm sure there will be even more by the time the first game of the season comes around.
"I was on loan at Pertemps Bees for parts of last season which included the two games against Leeds and I was very impressed by the squad who are already here. I believe I am a Premiership player and I am going to jump at the opportunity that Stuart Lancaster has given me here at Leeds. It will be good to be part of an ambitious side and hopefully I can help the team achieve our goals for next season," added the former England U21 star.
Director of Rugby Stuart Lancaster added, "Jon brings with him Premiership experience and a desire to prove himself that he can play at the highest level, something he has already shown in his career. He possesses an excellent long range kicking game and, being left footed, improves our ability to kick to either side of the field. In addition to his kicking game, he has proved to be an excellent counter attacker and I am sure he will develop even further under our attacking systems."
The other new signings in the close season are Alberto Di Bernardo, Vili Ma'asi (both Cornish Pirates), Joe Bedford, Hendre Fourie, Adam Hopcroft, Erik Lund (all Rotherham) and Andy Tuilagi (Leicester).
Leeds Carnegie begin their Guinness Premiership campaign against Gloucester on Sunday 16th September at Headingley Carnegie. The first pre-season game is against Doncaster at Headingley Carnegie on Sunday 26th August
