Nobody knows better than Canadian lock Mike James the enormity of the challenge that Stade Francais Paris face in trying to get their Heineken Cup campaign back on track against Leicester Tigers this weekend after their defeat in Wales by the Ospreys.
The Parisians’ 13-8 defeat at the Liberty Stadium was their fourth in five visits in the tournament to Wales and left them with two more long term injury worries in centre Stephane Glas and wing Julien Arias.
One of only five players to have figured in both Stade's Heineken Cup final appearances - Christophe Dominici, Sylvain Marconnet, Pieter de Villiers and David Auradou are the others - James suffered the heartbreak of losing to the Tigers in the epic 2001 Heineken Cup final in Paris.
James knows that nothing less than a win at Stade Charlety this weekend will be good enough to give his side the chance of making it third time lucky in a Heineken Cup final.
"We have got to bounce back pretty quickly after the defeat against the Ospreys,” he said. “If we don't, then our Heineken Cup campaign will be more or less over.
"We know a lot about Leicester having met them five times before in the tournament and they obviously had a big win over ASM Clermont Auvergne at the weekend. That means they will be travelling to Paris this week full of confidence.
"It's backs to the wall time for us now, especially with so many injuries. The only positive thing about the game in Swansea was that we at least came away with a bonus point.
"Consistency is our big problem at the moment. One week we can play in front of 80,000 fans at Stade de France and beat Toulouse, yet the next we can't come to Wales and win.
"We know that Leicester are a quality outfit and we'll have to work hard this week to re-group. We tend to raise our game for the big occasions and Saturday's game will be a big one for us."
