Newcastle Falcons stay top of Pool 3 of the European Challenge Cup after recording a 25 19 victory over Brive.
Falcons sit comfortably top of the Pool table with nine points after defeating Brive 25 19 in front of their home fans in the Thursday evening European fixture.
Both sides scored one try each in the entertaining match with Joe McDonnell touching down for the Falcons on the 17th minute mark and Brive back row Ryno van der Merwe crossing the line 20 minutes into the second half as the French attempted to stage a come back. Falcons fly half Steve Jones was the difference between the two sides scoring five penalties and one conversion. The win was sealed for last season's semi-finalists with an 80th minute drop goal by full back Tom May.
Brive's second half fight back secured them a losing bonus point giving them 5 match points from two European outings.
Connacht and El Salvador will complete the Round 2 Pool 3 action tomorrow evening when they meet in Galway at the Show Grounds.
