"I wish we could play Heineken Cup rugby every weekend." declared Lawrence Dallaglio after Wasps' Round 1 one-point win over Munster
London Wasps' love affair with the Heineken Cup goes on and on - club captain Lawrence Dallaglio declaring after their Round 1 one-point win over Munster in the clash of the champions that "I wish we could play Heineken Cup rugby every weekend."
The match of the weekend between the defending champions and the 2006 winners was another classic encounter as Wasps now prepare to travel to Stradey Park and face Llanelli Scarlets, one of last season's semi-finalists.
"I think we will go down there as underdogs," said Dallaglio. "We will be humble, do our homework and look forward to another great game because these are the sort of games everyone wants to play in.
"Quite often the hype before a game can end in a letdown - but I don't think anything seen in the Heineken Cup last weekend was a letdown, in fact, far from it. There has been real quality that has shown what a great competition it is and that the northern hemisphere can play a bit and produce exciting rugby.
"We all love playing in this competition - be they old faces or new faces - and the important thing is that everyone will learn from the experience, particularly the younger ones. For many of them it will have been the first time to play in an environment like this.
"The game with Munster had a lot of skill and commitment and I think everyone watching it, at the Ricoh Arena or on TV, got their money's worth.
"And if that was a sign of what is to come in our group and in the competition in general then we are all in for a real treat.
"But we will not get ahead of ourselves. The clashes simply don't get any easier and we have a massive game coming up at Llanelli Scarlets.
The Wasps and Scarlets have met four times in the tournament with the score standing at 2-2 and results going with home advantage in every case.
Ian McGeechan, the Wasps Director of Rugby, added: "We have not won there for a long time and we had a very big game against them down there two years ago.
"We know they are a good side, that they reached the semi-finals last season and that they are playing well. The Scarlets are a good all round side and very committed - just like Munster last weekend.
"It means the challenges just keep coming in this group and this competition and, for us, each game is like a cup final."
