Scotland's Chris Paterson looked round the new Kingsholm as the capacity 17,000 crowd streamed away from Gloucester's win over the Ospreys and declared, "This is why I left Scotland."
Although he has tasted success at the highest levels of international rugby and starred in the World Cup with a 100 per cent goal kicking record, he said it had been a privilege to play in the pulsating Heineken Cup clash and score the points which took his new side clear.
And he said the move would make him a better player, giving him the chance to play outside half, saying he has learned more in the last three weeks in England than he did in the last year in Scotland.

"I came down for two reasons. One was to experience something like this, such a special atmosphere, a special place, I have never played such a big game at club level before and I thoroughly enjoyed it - I felt privileged to be part of it," he said.
"I thoroughly enjoyed it, the squad, the management and spectators got a deserved victory for Gloucester.
"I was happy to get on and get involved, when you are called to come on and do your job you do your job."
Paterson came off the bench to play outside half for the last quarter at Kingsholm and has an assured display including a perfect goal-kicking display that took Gloucester out of bonus point range winning 26-18 against the Welsh region.
"You have to be honest enough to push yourself in life and go outside your comfort zone, I could easily have stayed in Edinburgh and enjoyed it but this brings back the butterflies and the nerves and I am delighted I took up the offer to come down here," he said.
"I like to think I am always learning and getting better, I am enjoying being considered for a bit of game time at 10, I can genuinely say I have learned more in the three weeks training we have had here than in the last year in Scotland.
"That is not detrimental to Scotland it is just that I was a senior player there, while there are so many better players than me here and hopefully I can learn from them.
"We are in a strong position in the group now, Bourgoin is a massive game for us but we will go on and one of the major ambitions for this club is to do well in Europe."
