Worcester Warriors centre Ben Hinshelwood has announced his retirement from rugby due to injury.
Hinshelwood has been a Worcester player since 2001, making over 80 appearances for the Warriors. He was a key member of the Worcester squad that won promotion to the Premiership and was Club Captain for their first season in the top flight.
Worcester coach John Brain said: "This is very sad news for everyone connected with the Club. Ben has been a key contributor to what we have achieved so far at Worcester and I'd like to place on record my thanks for everything that he's done for us both on and off the pitch. However, we fully respect and support his decision as his long term health has to be the primary concern. We all wish him every success for the future."
The 28-year-old centre/full-back had previously announced that he was to take a year out from the international game but due to a long tanding back condition, he has also decided to call time on his international career with Scotland.
Hinslewood was born in Melbourne, Australia. Hinshelwood scored his first try for Scotland in the 2004 summer tour victory against Samoa in Wellington. He made his comeback to Test match rugby in Scotland's RWC Countdown Test win against Italy, a broken leg sustained in a club match against Otley in January having ruled him out of the 2003 RBS Six Nations Championship. He made his first start for Scotland in the 2002 Scottish Mutual Autumn Test 36-22 win over Fiji.
He is the son of the former London Scottish and 21-times capped Scotland winger Sandy Hinshelwood and followed in his father's footsteps when he won his first cap, as a substitute, in the defeat by Canada on Scotland's 2002 North American tour during which he played in four matches. He studied commerce at Sydney University and first came to the UK through his work with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He is in his fifth season in English rugby, the first having been with Bedford from where he moved to Worcester in 2001. He has also represented the Scottish Exiles scoring two tries in their 54-21 victory against Edinburgh in the 2001-2002 Inter District Championship.
He has made nine appearences for Worcester in Europe, scoring three tries. His side currently have nine points from their two matches, and are teied with Connacht at the top of Pool 5.
