Perpignan surrendered their season's 100 per cent Pool 2 tournament record in dramatic fashion at Leeds Tykes - but England international Perry Freshwater insists no hint of complacency contributed to the last-gasp one-point setback.
The Tykes, in only their second campaign in Europe's premier tournament, followed up their victory over Rugby Calvisano with a 21-20 win against Perpignan thanks to Gordon Ross converting Gordon Bulloch's last-minute try.
"We never saw Leeds as weak opposition," said Perpignan loosehead prop Freshwater. "They won the Powergen Cup last year - which got them into the Heineken Cup - and, although they had a hard start to the year, they have hit form at the moment with domestic victories against Bath away, Newcastle at home and now us in the Heineken Cup.
"Justin Marshall is running the show and they have really come good recently. I saw their game against Bath and that proved they have a fantastic defence.
"And we look at last year a lot, when we went to Edinburgh and got thumped when we should have won the game, and when we had similar problems in the domestic league. "This year we had improved our attitude towards away games and we had won a few domestic away games already this season.
"But the back-to-back Heineken Cup games in Rounds 3 and 4 on alternative weeks are a funny one. We have picked up their strong points and their weaknesses and they have, no doubt, done the same with us.
"We are certainly looking to improve on our weak points from last weekend's in the home leg and we always look to beat everyone in our home fixtures.
"Leeds have a lot of South Africans in the team, which brings great quality to the side, and Andre Snyman in the backs is a fantastic player for them and has scored a lot of tries from nothing for them.
"While it takes time to integrate new players into any side, it is guys like Mike Shelley, who's been there since 1996 and is their longest serving player, who really make a side.
"They also have some really good younger players in the squad - Stuart Hooper and Tom Palmer are key players.
"They have a lot of guys who I know and who bring a lot to the team and Chris Bell is looking very sharp at centre."
