Cipriani hints at combining Wasps and Rebels roles

The mercurial fly-half is leaving the double European Champions at the end of the season but has now hinted that he could be back in Wasps colours as early as the autumn of 2011.

Cipriani has signed a two-year contract with new Super 15 franchise Melbourne Rebels but he had always admitted that a return to Wasps would be a distinct possibility once that deal comes to an end.

But now the 22-year-old has gone even further by suggesting that he could be tempted back on a short-term basis during the southern hemisphere off season next year.

"Between my first and second years there could be a possibility of coming back to play in England," said Cipriani, who will be looking to inspire Wasps to victory over Cardiff Blues in his final game at Adams Park this weekend.

"Wasps would be the first club I talk to whatever decision I make and will be the first club I think of."

Cipriani intends to use this summer and the remainder of 2010 and to improve his conditioning and give his body a proper rest before the inaugural Super 15 season kicks off in February 2011.

But while he has made it clear that he is looking forward to a fresh challenge in Australia, the man initially regarded as England's next big thing is keen to play for Wasps again in between his first and second seasons in Melbourne if, as expected, he misses out on Martin Johnson's World Cup squad.

"I won't do it this year," added Cipriani in relation to an early return.

"I have got a big period to condition myself which hopefully will put me in good shape for six to eight years.

"It will be difficult to leave Wasps. I have been here for seven years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I will miss that camaraderie.

"Hopefully I will be able to come back and see them in my off-season."
