Wales and Ospreys lock Alun Wyn Jones will undergo surgery on his elbow which will see him in recovery for six to twelve weeks, ruling him out of the Heineken Cup quarter-finals.
Jones picked up the injury to his arm around the 36th minute mark of Wales' dramatic victory over Scotland at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, but after being assessed and treated at half-time was able to continue the game.
However, further investigation to the elbow has revealed a chipped bone and ligament damage.
"Alun Wyn experienced some swelling to the joint the day after the game and was sent for a scan, after receiving those results and after further consultation with surgeons, it has been concluded that the chipped bone needs to be removed and the ligament to be repaired in order to ensure a stable joint." said Wales physio Mark Davies.
"The necessary period of recovery will be six to 12 weeks ruling him out of the rest of the current 6 Nations and allowing him to target an end of season return for the Ospreys."
