European challenge up quarter-final hopefuls Montpellier may have to play their remaining two pool matches without flanker Didier Chouchan.
Chouchan suffered a twisted knee in the 19-14 win over Albi in Saturday's French Championship match. He will certainly be sidelined over the holiday period and will undergo further examination this week to established just how long his lay-off will be.
Chouchan came on at the 70th minute to replace South African team mate Johan Wasserman and was injured within seconds of entering the game. Initial reports suggested a tear to the cruciate ligament an outcome the club will be desperate to avoid.
Cruciate ligament injuries typically take around eight months to heal and often require surgery and an extensive rehabilitation programme.
His side are currently second in Pool 4, seven points behind Sale Sharks, but they are pushing for a best runners up spot to secure a place in the final eight of the Challenge Cup. Round 5 sees them take on Bayonne and in Round 6 they play Sale.
Meanwhile Brive scrum half Jean-Baptiste Péjoine could miss the restart of the French championship and possibly Round 5 of the European Challenge Cup.
Péjoine complained about pains in his knee afterlast weekend's Top 14 match. Further medical tests will be taken to establish when he can return to action.
