The french international and Toulouse centre Florian Fritz will miss the Six Nations and could miss the Heineken Cup quarter-final, after fracturing his fibula in a training session.
The 2005 Heineken Cup winner with Toulouse, who was due to start for France in Sunday's clash with Scotland is expected to be out of action for between six and twelve week and could also miss the 2007 / 2008 Heineken Cup quarter-final against Cardiff Blues on Sunday, 6 April.
A more exact timeframe for his expected recovery will be known this week when the results of medical test will be released. The latest set back will be a big disappointment for Fritz who was unable to participate in the tournament last year due to another injury.
France Head Coach Marc Lievremont has called on another player who has qualified for the Heineken Cup quarter-finals, David Marty from Perpignan, to replace Fritz in the squad.
Two years ago France lost to Scotland in Murrayfield in their Six Nations opener (20-16). This season France travel to Scotland with a new look side and a new captain in Lionel Nallet and will be hoping to retain the Six Nations title for "Les Bleus".
