Glasgow Warriors are targeting their Pool 2 clash with Narbonne at Hughenden on Friday to stay in the mix for a place in the last eight...
They at least picked up a losing bonus point in their opening round defeat at Saracens but coach Sean Lineen accepts that it is likely to need back-to-back wins over Narbonne if they are to keep the pressure on Pool leaders Saracens.
"We have certainly got everything to play for - we are desperate to qualify for the European Challenge Cup quarter-finals because reaching the last eight was one of our stated goals for the season," said Lineen.
"But it is a tough group and Narbonne, like us, tend to score a lot of points so it should be some game.
"We have certainly done our homework on them and we know we will be against a typical French side, strong in the set pieces while being more adventurous than some other of the leading French clubs. They can score for almost anywhere and are sound at half back in particular."
The Warriors had a free weekend in the Magners League and, although they will be without international back row forward John Beattie, who is ruled out with a knee injury suffered on Scotland duty last month, Lineen is in buoyant mood.
"It was good to have the weekend free as it gave our guys who had been with Scotland that extra time to recharge their batteries and now we are ready for the Narbonne double header," he said.
"We have a lot of competition for places and this is a big opportunity for them to step up to the plate at an extremely important stage of the season. Glasgow have not always done that and it is to time for that to change.
"We have got a fine home record to protect - we have only lost once at home this season, in the first match and then only by a point after leading by 20 points - and it will be up to us to match up to the physical side of the French game.
"With us it is the belief factor, we have got some very good players and if we want to qualify for the European Challenge Cup then we need to do the business on Friday night."
