Saturday evening's final Round Magners League game at Musgrave Park marked the end of an era for Munster as Anthony Foley and Declan Kidney lead the team out for the last time in front of the their Cork based fans.
Despite an impressive try from 86 times Heineken Cup capped Foley, the Munster farewell celebrations did not go to script, as Glasgow Warriors defeated the Heineken Cup finalists 21 points to 18. Warriors sealed their victory with a try from Thom Evans in the 68th minute.
The final round loss means Munster finish third in the Magners League but, as Ireland's second placed team ahead of Connacht and Ulster, have qualified for next season's European top table.
In France fellow finalists Toulouse were also defeated, losing 17-15 away to Montpellier on Sunday evening. On a positive note the three-time Heineken Cup champions welcomed the return of international centre Florian Fritz from an ankle injury.
At halftime Montpellier were leading Guy Novès' side by 12 points to 3, but a second half surge from Toulouse with tries from Yves Donguy and Shaun Sowerby nearly saw them draw level on the whistle.
Toulouse must sweat on wing Manu Ahotaeila who suffered of a knee injury during the game and will face tests later this week.
With the Magners League now complete, Munster have a two week build up the Heineken Cup final while Toulouse will host Montauban on Saturday next as the Top 14 continues until June.
